Complaints and grievances, internet band community style [Apr. 4th, 2008|11:32 pm]
On comparing a band's previous material to recent material;

This is one of the more ridiculous discussion elements I've been around long enough to witness.

Listen to any band that has over 4 albums. Listen to their first album, listen to their last album. Then listen to any album between those. Do they change between albums? If the answer is no, you have yourself a crappy band on your hands.

I can cite several well established artists you can try this with yourself, here are a few;

The Cure
Pink Floyd
The Jayhawks
Nine Inch Nails
David Bowie
Radiohead

On comparing what is obviously a pop song to an older esoteric piece;

Do you listen to music at all? I'm asking you this seriously. Can you seriously name one signed artist that hasn't recorded a pop song?

Some of THE GREATEST ARTISTS OF ALL TIME have made their career on what are considered pop songs.

Jimi Hendrix only had one number one hit, and it was a cover. What does this tell you?

I also find it INCREDIBLY ASININE that you cannot detect radio-rock friendly tracks of yesteryear. HINT; In the 90's esoteric lyrics that are open to individual interpretation filled weird noises were VERY POPULAR. (cough: radiohead!) (cough: rewind 10 more years THE CURE) Even beyond that there are lots of songs released on both indie LPs that are VERY STRAIGHT FORWARD POP SONGS WITH A SIMPLE MESSAGE.

If you use the internet wayback machine you will find that people have been saying the same thing about previous albums for a very very long time.

American Jetset, an album often held high by this community, is nothing but one super-long pop album. It's STILL a great album.

I've never seen anyone come up with a compelling argument to suggest the band have sold out or don't record material that should be regarded just as highly as what they have previously done. It's clear that you're only listening for things you don't like so that you can piss and moan about them.

For butt's sake people. I WANNABE A KENNEDY. Does it get much poppier?

We get it! You found the pop songs on the last two albums! :thumbsup: Good for you. You can point out an apple from an orange. Now tell me why Black Poison Blood, Is Anyone Here Alive, Race The Dream, Songs That Saved My Life, Scream, Goodnight Goodbye, and New Heart For Xmas are bad songs?

The imagery on some of the songs on UTNLOU and Hope For The Hopeless alone suggest that you are incredibly incorrect.

Not only that, are you missing the parallels between American Jetset and Until There's Nothing Left Of Us? They're very similiar, but the difference in tone between the two is immense. American Jetset is very light and poppy, Until There's Nothing Left Of Us is INCREDIBLY DARK in comparison.

On "you're not as big a fan as me because I've known about the band longer and I have an apparently deeper connection with the music you wouldn't understand because I'm a true fan!"

How do you think I felt, almost nine years ago, when I encountered the same thing?

Isn't it sad that this one single aspect of the community has remained the same? Band-fan elitism is stupid. You aren't a better fan because you've been listening to them longer or because you think you connect to the music deeper than other person. More than anything, this makes you a douche you aren't really qualified to be.

It doesn't make it okay to be an elitist.

I could go on, and on, and on, and on.

Paraphrasing;

Bands grow and change. Get over it.

Most people that want to do music for a career are going to record pop songs. STOP faulting them for wanting to be able to eat and support their art. I don't see you faulting Robert Smith for songs like Love Song, and Pictures Of You, and they're incredibly straight forward pop songs.

Band Elitism is stupid. You have no grounds or rights to insist someone likes something less than you because you disagree with them. If this were true, the world would be a very boring place because everyone would be required to have the same opinion.

(no subject) [Sep. 23rd, 2007|07:10 pm]
I keep having these weird dreams where I'm back in highschool, but I'm always at a different school. They're like really bad teen movies. I wish they'd stop.

Kill Hannah font! [Jul. 13th, 2004|03:04 am]
[You care? |Been productive... yup yup.]
[Audiables |The Cure - Going Nowhere (Live)]

Erin Westlund found the font Mat Devine used as a base for the typeface of the KH logo.

Well, I took it and made it look exactly like the typeface used on the KH logo.

Even added the butterflies, and the Sniperheart.

I made that just by typing. No editing what so ever.

You can get the font here.

You just stick that file in C:\Windows\Fonts

INSTRUCTIONS:

All letters are in CAPS.

To get the triangle shaped A that links up with the H, use a lowercase a.

Butterfly is on lowercase b, inverse one is on lowercase v.

SNIPERHEART:

READ ME.

A regular all one color sniper heart is on lowercase s. if you press lowercase d, you will get another heart that goes over top of the heart in the previous sniper heart.

IE, pick a color, press lowercase s. Pick another color, press lowercase d. Two different colors on a sniper heart.

Yeah, thats how much of a loser I am. I made a frickin Kill Hanah font. :P GO LOSERDOM!!
